THE JEWISH FEDERATION of Greater Middlesex County built on a record-setting Super Sunday by having one of the most successful follow-up callback nights in its history.

On Nov. 26 and 27, volunteers raised $64,000 from individuals they were not able to reach on Nov. 18, when the phonathon raised $523,000.

Follow-up nights have usually brought in $15,000 to $20,000 per night, said federation associate executive director Susan Antman.

"This community was generous, as it always has been, on Super Sunday," she said, "and continued donating generously when we called back."

The $587,000 Super Sunday total eclipsed last year's $519,000.

Thanks to a $1.2 million jumpstart from its annual Vanguard event in August, the 2008 campaign already stands at $2,009,000 toward a campaign goal of $2,625,000. The money raised benefits Jewish educational, cultural, and social service programs at home and a range of projects in Israel and other countries.

The federation's fiscal year ends June 30.
