As part of its mission to help needy Jewish brides furnish their bedrooms, the organization Tiffany Avram Kallah will hold its annual benefit dinner on Monday evening, Oct. 27, at Congregation Etz Chaim in Livingston.

The program — “Entertaining with Wine: Matching Food and Wine to Perfection” — will be hosted by Miriam Morgenstern Laufer of Wine Spectator magazine and Jay Buchsbaum of the Baron Herzog Winery.

The organization was created to perpetuate the memory of Tiffany Avram, a student at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union in West Orange who died at the age of 12 in an April 1999 car accident.

“I provide the girls with a mattress, a box spring, and all the bedding,” said Sharon Avram, Tiffany’s mother. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to make Tiffany a bride, and I wanted to do something for brides in need.” Avram lives in West Orange with her husband, Michael; the couple has three children.

The 50 women she has helped during the past three years are generally referred to the fund by rabbis in the area. Avram receives a copy of the applicant’s wedding invitation and a letter from the bride’s rabbi attesting to the fact that her family is in need. “Sometimes there are lots of kids in the family. Sometimes the parents may be sick or may not be working,” Avram said, situations that make the donation of the bed and bedding a welcome contribution to the new couple’s home.

The dinner will begin at 6:30. For further information, call 201-738-3158.
