With the witty and sassy style that turned her novels into best-sellers, author Jennifer Weiner spoke to more than 400 women at CHOICES, the largest annual event of the UJA Women’s Campaign.
The event, held May 15 at the Hilton Parsippany, raised more than $70,000 in new contributions to the 2008 United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ campaign.
Event chairs were Anna Fisch of Short Hills, Thelma Florin of West Orange, and Vivien Greenberg of Mountain Lakes.
Weiner, whose novels include Good in Bed; In Her Shoes, which became a big- screen hit in 2005; and the newly released Certain Girls, spoke about growing up in a Jewish suburban Connecticut home. She described how she worked her way up the ranks at newspapers in the greater Philadelphia area, and of the fantasy and reality of pregnancy and childbirth.
Speaking on behalf of the UJA campaign was Jonathan Livny, a prominent Israeli attorney, war veteran, and champion of the rights of immigrants.
Women who attended CHOICES have made a minimum gift of $365 to the Women’s Campaign. Thirty-nine women attended the program as part of 1st CHOICE, in which women giving to UJA in their own names for the first time make a $180 contribution that is matched through a grant from Ruth and Martin Barber of Livingston.
