Friendship in the lives of women will be the theme of the Annual Spring Luncheon 2008 of Women’s Campaign, a fund-raising arm of the United Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks.

Best-selling writer Anita Diamant will headline the event, which is set for Thursday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville.

Author of the award-winning The Red Tent, Diamant will speak about the ideas contained in her collection of personal essays on Jewish life, Pitching My Tent: On Marriage, Motherhood, Friendship and Other Leaps of Faith.

“It’s so exciting for us. It’s a book and author that speak to women on so many different levels,” said Kim Pimley of Princeton, who is chairing the 45-member committee for the luncheon.

“This goes to women’s friendships and camaraderie and working together,” she said. “The camaraderie of women is what’s happening here at federation. We felt that given the organization and what we’re trying to do and what we want this event to mean to people, that was just perfect. It’s a nice chance for the whole community to see what we’re about.”

The luncheon will begin with a reception and Chances for Treasure, a raffle. Among the items up for bid will be jewelry by Perrisue Silverstein, gifts from The Pink Daisy in Yardley, Pa., Trenton Thunder tickets, a gift certificate to Princeton’s Zoe boutique, and meals at Lahiere’s and the Witherspoon Grill. Favors are being provided by Hamilton Jewelers.

“We’re expecting over 300 women, and I think this is going to be one of our largest fund-raisers,” said Darlene Paszamant of Skillman, Women’s Campaign president. “I think it’s going to bring a lot of new people in.

“It’s very important,” she added. “It’s important for our community to keep young women together and to stay strong.”

The spring luncheon is central to the cause of Women’s Campaign, according to campaign chair Stacey Wasserman.

“It’s like saying goodbye to winter and getting everyone back together,” she said. “It’s to reenergize everybody about the campaign and to get them excited again about all the work we do.”

Nancy Lewis, interim campaign director for the federation, is coordinating the event.

“I’m looking forward to working with the very enthusiastic committee on this major fund-raiser,” Lewis said. “We’re hoping that the speaker will attract a great many women to this very exciting event.”

Tickets to the spring luncheon are available for $80, or $70 for seniors. Dietary laws will be observed. The reservation deadline is Wednesday, May 14. For information, contact Lewis at the federation at 609-219-0555 or, toll-free from Lower Bucks County, 609-530-0400.
