If you’re not sure about what to put on your seder plate and are wondering about where the prophet Elijah got his start, Temple Shalom’s Passover University will provide some answers.

The event will take place at the Aberdeen synagogue from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 25. Resident and visiting scholars will present interactive courses on Passover-related topics throughout the afternoon, and participants may choose up to two courses from the Passover “curriculum.”

Offerings include the preparation of traditional Passover cuisine; how to conduct a great seder; Elijah’s relationship to the seder; creating your own matza cover, and the music of Passover.

“It will be a wonderful opportunity for the neophyte to learn about this important Jewish holiday and for the advanced to add enrichment to their seders,” said Carla Zimmerman of Aberdeen, “dean” of Passover University and a member of the temple’s membership committee, which is cosponsoring the event with the Adult Jewish Growth Committee.

Passover University is open to the general public; courses are intended for teens and adults, and babysitting services will be available.

The temple’s first Passover University took place in 2001 and won an outreach award from the Union for Reform Judaism. A second university took place in 2003, and a third was conducted last year.

For tuition details and registration information, contact the temple office or 732-566-2621.
