Sidney Rachlin
Sidney G. Rachlin, 95, of Aventura, Fla., died April 28, 2012. Born in New Britain, Conn., he grew up in Newark and lived in North Miami Beach and Hallandale, Fla., before moving to Aventura 10 years ago.
Dr. Rachlin practiced dentistry in Hallandale from 1953 to 1994.
He graduated in 1941 from University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
A major in the 67th Medical Battalion during World War II, he participated in the liberation of Dachau and received an American Defense Service Medal.
He was former president of Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, and the brotherhood of Temple Sinai, and was a founder of the Hallandale Library.
He was interviewed as a camp liberator for the Fortunoff Video Archives for Holocaust Testimonials at Yale University, and served as an interviewer for Stephen Spielberg’s Shoah Foundation, where he recorded the testimonials of Holocaust survivors.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; three daughters, Joan Rachlin, Barbara Meyer, and Laura Gibert; two sons, Alan and William; two sisters, Ruth Tenner and Estee Fisher, both of West Orange; and four grandchildren.
Services were held May 1 in Florida.
