Sanford Gelbert
Sanford “Sim” Gelbert, 86, of Whippany died Jan. 29, 2012. He lived in Brooklyn, in Glen Rock for 21 years, in Wanaque, and Asheville, NC, before moving to Whippany six years ago.
A retired lithographer, Mr. Gelbert worked as a production plant manager for Lincoln Graphic Arts in Farmingdale, Kerner Printing in New York, and Book-Mart Press in Moonachie. He was inducted into the Print NJ Century Club for his many years in the print industry, presided over by NY Mayor Ed Koch.
A Navy Jewish War veteran, he served as a signalman on the USS Southampton during World War II in the Pacific corridor.
He was a member of the Glen Rock Jewish Center.
Predeceased by his son Alan, he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Muriel (Wallach), five sons, Howard, Lee, Mark, Bob, and Neil; a daughter, Judy; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 31 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Dover.
