Joseph Groder
Joseph Groder, 84, of Springfield died Jan. 8, 2012. Born in Vienna, Austria, he came to the United States as a young man, living in Brooklyn and Queens before moving to Springfield many years ago.
Mr. Groder was employed by Alpha Chemical Corporation in Newark as an engineer.
He graduated from City College of New York with a bachelor of science degree and from Columbia University with a master of science degree.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield and a member of the Springfield Planning Board and Environmental Commission. He was a treasurer of B’nai B’rith, a member of the Jewish War Veterans, and treasurer of the American Society of Plastic Engineers.
Predeceased by his wife, Mildred (Blum), in 2009, he is survived by his daughter, Caryn Segal of Byram, and a son, Robert of Springfield.
Services were held Jan. 10 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
