Jerome Brown

Jerome Brown, 86, of Springfield died Jan. 11, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, he resided in East Brunswick for 12 years and in South Orange for almost 40 years before moving to Springfield in 2005.

Mr. Brown was the co-owner of William Halpern Co., a machine tools distributor in Orangeburg, NY, for over 60 years.

He graduated from Rutgers University.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Oheb Shalom Congregation, South Orange.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Merwasser); two sons, Stuart and his wife, Rachel, of Manlius, NY, and Philip and his wife, Lori, of Caldwell; his daughter, Leslie Brown Goldberg of Marblehead, Mass.; a sister, Grace Goluboff of Saskatoon, Canada; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 12 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA 90401 (http://www.pcf.org).
