Edward Kessler

Edward L. Kessler of Summit, 83, died May 11, 2012. Born in Jersey City, he lived most of his life in South Orange.

Mr. Kessler was the executive vice president of Montgomery Engineering Company in West Caldwell.

He served on the board of NJ ACLU and more recently was a board member of the League of Women Voters and the Enamelist Guild. He was a volunteer at the Newark Museum and for the past 20 years cooked breakfast for the SHIP program in Summit. He was an active member of the Fair Housing Council and the peace movement.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nicki; three daughters, Jill Freinberg, Nancy Kessler, and Gail Kessler-Walsh; his son, David; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held May 17 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to NJ ACLU or the Newark Museum.
