Beatrice Rosenberg

Beatrice Rosenberg, 91, of Shrewsbury died May 15, 2012. Born in Indianapolis, she lived there before moving to Chicago in 1937 and later to New York City until 1969, when she moved back to Chicago. In 1994 she moved to New Jersey.

Mrs. Rosenberg was a real estate broker for many years at Coldwell Banker in Glenview, Ill., where she received a lifetime achievement award.

In 1941, she studied at the University of Chicago and later worked on the top-secret Atomic Bomb project.

In April 1994, she received the AARP “Outstanding Service to Community” award for spearheading a Senior Housing Directory, which was later used by seniors and social workers to help secure housing for seniors on Chicago’s North Shore.

In New Jersey, she continued her activism, and in 1997 the NJ Senate and Assembly recognized her efforts in a Joint Legislative Resolution for arranging for the placement of certified defibrillators in state police vehicles.

She is survived by her son, Steven of Fair Haven, and three grandchildren.

Services were held May 18 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
