Saturday, February 11 at 7:00 PM
Around the town in Metuchen - start at one member's home, call for full details
Category: Fundraisers, Seniors, Singles

Once again, Metuchen-Edison Gesher Hadassah will present its popular Progressive Dinner, giving members and non-members an opportunity to enjoy great company and wonderful cuisine on an evening around the town.  On Saturday, February 11 at 7:00 PM, participants will gather together for appetizers at one member’s home in Metuchen, then split into smaller, pre-assigned groupings for an elegant sit-down main course at several individual homes.  At 9:30 PM, the full group will reassemble for fabulous desserts and a chance to “compare notes” at another member’s Edison home.  The cost for this event, which raises funds for Hadassah programs in Israel and around the world, is $38 per person (member), with couples @ $75, and $40 per person for non-members.  Optionally, attendees can pay $20 per person to participate in either appetizers or desserts (no main course).  Please register by January 23 to assist the planners in making the dinner assignments. For full details and registration instructions, please contact Susan, 732-603-0801 or send email to susnotes@optonline.net

Jews and Rock ‘n’ Roll

Sunday, February 12 at 10:00 AM
Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC (rented space), 760 Northfield Ave., West Orange, NJ (Map)
Category: Families, Learning, Lectures, Music, Seniors, Singles

From doo wop’s earliest harmonies to punk’s anti-melodic anthems to today’s eclectic mix, Jews have played an integral role in rock ‘n’ roll’s development. Join rock and pop culture maven and Beatles expert Susan Ryan for a rousing session on Jewish disc jockeys, promoters, managers, songwriters and performers and their contributions to the music that’s shaped three generations. Whether you’re a hard-core fan or a mere music lover, you’ll tap your feet, sing along and leave this program with a new appreciation for the Jews who’ve made this music their own!

Hosted by progressive Jewish writer and scholar Bennett Muraskin, this free monthly session of the Jewish Cultural School & Society’s (JCSS) adult education series is open to all.

Visit jcss-nj.org for more.
